Using the television’s own apps keeps the setup tidy: one remote, no extra box, no extra cable. The right app depends on the operating system your TV runs, so start by finding out which one you have.
Find your TV’s system
| Brand or system | How to recognise it | Player for SSTV IPTV |
|---|---|---|
| Google TV or Android TV (Sony, TCL, Hisense, Philips and others) | Google Play on the home screen | TiviMate Premium |
| LG (webOS) | LG Content Store or Apps | SS IPTV or another player from LG’s store |
| Samsung (Tizen) | Apps on the Smart Hub bar | A player from Samsung’s store; older models can run SS IPTV from USB |
| Other systems (Vidaa, Roku, Fire TV built-in) | Varies | See below |
Televisions running Google TV
These televisions are the easiest: they install TiviMate from Google Play just like a streaming stick, so you get TiviMate Premium’s guide, replays and recording on the built-in system. Follow the TiviMate Premium guide.
LG televisions
LG sets can install the free SS IPTV app from LG’s own store. You add SSTV IPTV by pasting a playlist link into the app’s settings, or by sending it from a computer with a connection code. The SS IPTV guide covers both methods. Other IPTV players are also available in the LG store; our email names the one we currently recommend if you’d rather not use SS IPTV.
Samsung televisions
SS IPTV isn’t in Samsung’s app store. Its makers provide a package that installs from a USB stick on Samsung TVs from roughly 2012 to 2019; newer Samsung models generally use another player from the Samsung store. Several of these players ask for a small activation fee after a trial period, paid to the app’s developer rather than to us. Our article on Samsung TV players compares the options.
Other systems
Fire TV televisions run Fire OS and follow the Fire TV instructions. For Roku, Vidaa and less common systems, a separate streaming stick is usually the better route: a Google TV Streamer or a Fire OS stick plugged into a spare HDMI input turns any TV into a full TiviMate setup.
When a stick beats the TV’s own app
Smart TV apps are convenient, but streaming sticks are often faster, update more often and support more features. If your TV’s app feels slow, misses the guide or struggles with 4K, a stick costing less than a month of cable usually solves it.
Questions about smart TVs
Do I need a separate box?
Not necessarily. Many smart TVs can play SSTV IPTV with their own apps; a stick is optional but often smoother.
Is SS IPTV free?
The SS IPTV app is free to download and use. It’s made by an independent developer and contains no channels; you add SSTV IPTV to it with your playlist link.
My TV’s app asks for a MAC address. Why?
Some players register each TV by its MAC address and let you add your playlist on their website. Follow the app’s instructions and keep your SSTV IPTV details private.
