Hardly a week goes by without someone asking whether SSTV IPTV and SS IPTV are the same company. They aren’t, and the difference matters when you’re setting up a television. SS IPTV, full name Simple Smart IPTV, is a free player app made by an independent developer. SSTV IPTV is a subscription: the channels, films and guide data the app plays. Think of the app as an empty television set and your subscription as the signal.

Because the app ships without any content, it does nothing on its own; it’s a media player, much like VLC on a computer. Your playlist link is what turns it into a TV service.

Is your television a candidate?

  • LG: webOS sets and older NetCast models list SS IPTV in the LG Content Store, called simply Apps on recent models. Availability doesn’t depend on your country.
  • Samsung: the app isn’t in Samsung’s store. Models from roughly 2012 to 2019 can install it from a USB stick with the package on the developer’s site; newer Samsungs generally can’t. Our Samsung article covers the alternatives.
  • Philips and Sony without Android: the developer offers beta versions that work on some models.
  • Android TV and Google TV: possible, but TiviMate Premium, included with your plan, is the far better choice there.

What you’ll need

Just one thing: the M3U playlist link from your activation email, also shown in My subscription. SS IPTV doesn’t ask for a server, username and password the way Xtream-based apps do; the link already contains them. Our explainer on M3U links and Xtream logins covers the difference.

Treat that link like a password. Anyone who has it can watch on your plan.

Two ways to load the playlist

Typing it on the TV

Inside SS IPTV, open Settings with the gear icon, choose Content, then External playlists, and press Add. Give the playlist a name, enter the link and save. Back on the main screen, a new tile appears. LG’s Magic Remote, which works like a mouse pointer, makes this bearable; a standard remote with arrow keys doesn’t.

Sending it from your phone or computer

Most people prefer this. On the TV, open Settings → General and choose Get code. A short connection code appears, valid for a limited time. On your computer or phone, open the playlist editor in the users area of ss-iptv.com and enter the code; the site is now paired with your TV. Under External playlists, add an item, name it, paste your link as the source, confirm with OK and press Save. Restart the app on the TV and the playlist shows up.

The full sequence, with the exact menu names, is on our SS IPTV setup page.

After the first load

  • Give it a minute. A large playlist takes a moment to index the first time; leaving and reopening the app helps.
  • Check the guide. SS IPTV takes programme information from the playlist. If times look an hour off, adjust the time shift in the app’s settings.
  • Replays rely on the archive information carried by the link, so use the link exactly as we send it, without editing.
  • Favourites keep long lists manageable. Mark the channels you watch every day.

Snags we see most

“No channels” after adding the link. Usually the link was cut short or picked up a space when pasted. Copy it again from your account.

The code expires before you’ve typed it. Generate a new one and enter it straight away; codes are short-lived by design.

The playlist added on the website never arrives. The Save button on the website is easy to miss. Save, wait a minute, then fully close and reopen SS IPTV.

Buffering on an otherwise fast connection. The Wi-Fi inside a TV is often weak, and a network cable usually fixes it. See Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

When another route makes more sense

SS IPTV is a sensible, free way to watch on an LG set. If you want the richest guide, recordings or several channels on screen at once, plugging a Fire OS stick or a Google TV device with TiviMate Premium into the same TV gives you more, for the price of the stick.

Questions

Does SS IPTV cost anything?

The app is free. You pay only for your SSTV IPTV plan, at our checkout.

Can I use the same subscription in SS IPTV and TiviMate?

Yes. One plan works in both; just stay within your plan’s number of devices when watching at the same time.

Can the app’s developer help with my subscription?

No. They have no access to your order and no connection with us. Questions about your plan come to our help center.
