In this guide
When your SSTV IPTV line is activated, the email contains two sets of details. One is a long web address; the other is three short items labelled server, username and password. Players usually ask for one or the other, and some accept both. Choosing well gets you a quicker app and a fuller guide.
What’s inside each
The M3U playlist link points to a text file listing every channel: its name, its group, its logo, its guide identifier and the address of its stream. A player that downloads the file knows everything in one go. The link already contains your username and password, which is why it must stay private.
The Xtream Codes login (server address, username, password) lets the player talk to our server through an interface designed for IPTV apps. Instead of one big file, the player asks for what it needs: live channels, then films, then series, then guide data, each in separate, structured lists.
Why the choice matters
| M3U link | Xtream login | |
|---|---|---|
| Live channels | Yes | Yes |
| Films and series | Often one long list per category | Proper catalogues with posters, seasons and episodes |
| Programme guide | Needs a guide address, in the playlist or added by hand | Usually loaded automatically |
| Catch-up | Works when the playlist carries archive details | Usually detected automatically |
| Line-up changes | The player must reload the playlist | Picked up at the next refresh |
| Typing on a remote | One very long address | Three short fields |
That’s why the way you sign in changes how the on-demand section looks. Through Xtream, a series appears as a series, with seasons and episodes; through a plain playlist, the same series may show up as dozens of separate entries.
Which player wants which
- TiviMate: choose Xtream Codes when adding the playlist, as our TiviMate guide shows.
- SS IPTV: uses the playlist link; see the SS IPTV guide.
- Store players on Samsung and LG: most offer both; prefer Xtream when it’s available.
- iPhone, iPad and Apple TV players: most accept Xtream, as in our iOS guide.
- MAG boxes: neither, in the usual sense; the box is linked to its MAC address, as the MAG page explains.
- Enigma2 receivers: the playlist route creates a bouquet, while IPTV plugins take the Xtream details; see the Enigma2 page.
- VLC on a computer: plays the playlist link, but without a real guide.
Mistakes that cost an evening
- Adding both to the same player. You’d see every channel twice. Pick one.
- Dropping the port. If the server address ends in a colon and a number, that number belongs to the address.
- Editing the playlist link. Removing parts of it can lose logos, groups or replays.
- Posting a screenshot of the email. Either set of details gives full access to your plan, so blur them before asking for help anywhere public.
If something stops working
When channels disappear after a change on our side, reload the playlist; in TiviMate, open the playlist in Settings → Playlists and choose to update it. If your details stop working altogether, check the end date in My subscription, and if the plan is still active, open a ticket.
Questions
Are the M3U link and the Xtream login two separate subscriptions?
No. They’re two doors into the same line, counted against the same device limit.
Which is more secure?
Neither, in practice: both contain your credentials. Keep them equally private.
My player asks for an “EPG URL”. Where do I find it?
Players using Xtream usually fetch the guide on their own. If yours asks, the guide link is listed in My subscription alongside the playlist link.
